Blow Tissues

Some brand names become so synonymous with a category, the brand overshadows what the product.

To be more specific, most people call any tissues Kleenex.

What if I told you there was a local entrepreneur (David) taking on the giant Kleenex (Goliath)?

Ariel Westphal started Blow Tissues to do just that. It is a refillable tissue-box business that is exploding and trying to take on a giant.

What if we all rallied around Ariel to help her win? (the quality is incredible btw).

Impact on the Plains

United Way of the Plains awarded $105,000 to four local nonprofits during its annual Shark Tank-style Impact on the Plains competition. Masters and Mentors took first place with $40,000 plus the $5,000 People’s Choice Award, followed by LegacyWorks ($30,000), Breakthrough Episcopal Social Services ($20,000) and the Wichita Library Foundation ($10,000).

Tallgrass Film Festival

Tallgrass Film Festival is back October 15–18, bringing four days of independent film, filmmakers, parties and more to Wichita. The 24th annual festival will showcase 100+ films from around the world, making it one of Wichita’s signature arts events and the largest independent film festival in Kansas.

Ballet Wichita The Spirit Bride

Looking for something hauntingly beautiful this fall?

Ballet Wichita's The Spirit Bride is a brand-new contemporary ballet inspired by Giselle: a ghost story of love, betrayal, and forgiveness set on the one night the veil between the living and the dead grows thin. Drifting spirits, a moonlit lake, and a race against dawn make this the company's spooky fall centerpiece.

Co-created with Newman University, it runs two nights only, October 9 and 10 at 7:00 PM at the DeMattias Fine Arts Center at Newman University.

Red Hat Society

Red hats, purple outfits and plenty of attitude are taking over Wichita Sept. 25–27 for the Red Hat Society’s “Thanks for the Memories” Funvention at the Holiday Inn East I-35. The weekend brings Red Hatters from across the region together for dancing, games, costume contests, shopping and plenty of fun and friendship.
