🌾 Sunflower Summer

Good morning, Wichita!

This season didn’t end like we wanted for the Chiefs, but it wasn’t long ago when even being in the Super Bowl seemed like a wild dream.

Let's get to it!

NEWS

Sunflower Summer

The Sunflower Summer Program has been a blessing for families all over Kansas.

All you had to do was download the app, make an account, and you could visit all kinds of Kansas attractions for free over the summer months with your kids.

Places like museums, water parks, art attractions and over 200 other places.

This program is managed by the Division of Tourism after it was moved to the Department of Commerce rather than where it was originally established in the Department of Education.

Long story short, the program needs ~$6.5 million to operate (based on last year) and state leaders are only asking for $1 million, so at this rate it will not be available to the families who enjoy it week in and week out.

If that doesn’t sit right with you, contact your state rep today.

Wichita Life Spotlight

Matt Jansen - KMUW

Today we are recognizing Matt Jansen:

“He’s basically one of the Dads of the Wichita music scene. He owns Midwest Drum and he works really hard to provide a place for bands and musicians just starting out a place to play. Matt and Midwest Drum are a staple in Wichita and deserve some recognition and I’m sure im not the only one to think so. “

We put out a form for you to recommend people doing special things in our community, so let’s keep it rolling!

Local Prices

Local restaurants are also being affected by the skyrocketing egg prices. If your bill is a little higher, don’t take it out on servers or local establishments. They are trying their best.

For Sale

People love to shop local in Wichita. Watermark Books & Cafe is a name that often comes up when people are talking about shopping local.

And it is now for sale if you’re interested.

Ty’s Diner

RIP Mark Klamm. In 2019 Mark got the Ty’s Diner burger stop tattoo on his arm in exchange for free burgers for life. He seemed like a good dude.

One-Way → Two-Way

One-way streets have a place in the world, but can also get old pretty quick if you don’t know your way around an area.

By the end of February, Emporia, Topeka, English, and Main streets will be converted to two-way streets.

Winter Bluegrass Festival

The two day 35th Annual Winterfest Bluegrass Festival kicks off this Friday at the Wichita Marriott.

Film Production

Are you a film maker? Or ever thought about it?

In the past, Kansas has lost out on film production due to incentives being way better elsewhere.

A great example is the show Tulsa King with Sylvester Stallone (from Yellowstone genius Taylor Sheridan). This was supposed to be Kansas City King, but Kansas did not offer tax incentives.

There is a new House Bill proposal to provide a 30% tax incentive to make movies and tv shows in Kansas.
